AWARI was formed and registered as a non-profit organization in 2006. With offices in Tokyo, Beijing and Seattle, AWARI aims to assist corporate, non-corporate and government entities through research regarding water, resources, agriculture and livestock. The group received its first study contract soon after forming, with a major project for the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
